A Little Bit More About Glucophage Without Prescription

Glucophage is a hypoglycemic (antidiabetic) drug from the biguanide group, which is used to treat 2 type diabetes.

Glucophage (active ingredient - metformin) increases the sensitivity of peripheral receptors to insulin and stimulates glucose uptake by muscle cells. This medication delays carbohydrate absorption in the intestine. Has a beneficial effect on lipid metabolism: it reduces total cholesterol.

Indications for use of Glucophage without prescription:

  • 2 type diabetes mellitus in adults after failure of diet (especially with concomitant obesity)
  • in combination with insulin in type 2 diabetes (insulin-dependent), especially in patients with severe obesity, with secondary insulin resistance

The dosing regimen of Glucophage is set individually. The initial dose is 0.5-1g/day. After 10-15 days it is possible further gradual increase in dose, depending on the level of hypoglycemia. Maintenance dose is an average of 1.5-2g/day. The maximum dose - 3g/day.

To reduce the side effects from the gastrointestinal tract daily dose should be divided into 2-3 doses. Tablets should be taken as a whole, during or immediately after meals.

Glucophage is contraindicated during pregnancy. When planning a pregnancy, Glucophage and insulin should be withdrawn. The patient should be warned about the need to inform her doctor in case of pregnancy. It is not known whether Glucophage is allocated in breast milk. If patient is necessary to use medication during lactation she should stop breastfeeding.
